About V Merchant
Roots reggae · Culture reggae · Lovers rock
Born in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, V Merchant grew up immersed in the cultures of Warsop, Trelawny, and Withorn, Westmoreland, before refining his craft in Kingston’s music scene. Now based in Canada, he carries his Jamaican heritage into every recording and performance.
His sound draws on reggae’s deep basslines and timeless rhythms, blending roots reggae, culture reggae and lovers rock. His songs tell stories of life’s challenges, desires and victories, with hope, resilience and unity at their heart.
His album ‘We Will Rise’ brings together collaborations with Capleton, Sizzla, Doreño and Devah Don. Songs including ‘Brighter Day’, ‘Tribal War’ and ‘Warzone’ reflect his commitment to uplifting communities and advocating for positive change through music.
“My music is born from the universal cry for freedom—the innate longing for acceptance, belonging, and love. Through a blend of roots, culture reggae, and lovers rock, my songs tell stories of life’s challenges, desires, and victories.”
